 American Backflow Prevention Association Announces

2017-2019 President, Vice President and Region Directors

On Tuesday, April 4th, during the ABPA Annual Business Meeting and Awards Luncheon in San Antonio, Tim Brown of the Albemarle County Service Authority, Charlottesville, VA was sworn-in as the new International President.

President Brown highlighted several key areas of focus for the next two years as he leads the organization.

  • Guide our Finances - put the Association on firmer financial footing; explore partnership opportunities with our MOU partners while still maintaining our independence; seek a variety  of income sources that includes increased membership, finally publishing our Certification Manual, and partnering with other states on the use of our well-respected certification exams.
  • Increase Membership and Improve Member Services - create the situation in which a member recognizes the benefits of being a part of our Association; a first quarterly newsletter will be released in May, and maintained on a regular schedule; continue to hold strong Annual Conferences (like here in San Antonio) that benefits our members, but also our supportive vendors.
  • Improve Communication between the Board of Directors and Members, and Among Members - newsletter; Board meeting minutes to be placed on the website once approved; more visible finances, in time; Chapters encouraged to place their information on the website so that it becomes a valuable Chapter tool.
  • Fix Chapter Issues - accurate and timely dues return is a must; quarterly dues will be returned no later than 45 days after the end of each quarter; therefore, Q1 2017 dues to be mailed by May 15; the Chapter IRS tax issue will finally be resolved; National issues fixed in 2015; ideal will be to get all Chapters under the National "umbrella".
  • Write New, and Revise, Necessary Policy - the bylaws were revised in 2015, but it is the list of policies that guide the day-to-day activities of the Association; need policies for improved consistency in how .we operate, that are fair, and are more visible to our members on the website.

Several other Board members were also sworn-in at the Conference, including:

  • Peter McLaughlin, International Vice President
  • Kathy Riley, Region 3 Director
  • Jesse Bockhouse, Region 5 Director
  • Danny Jurkowitz, Region 11 Director
